My Process

I started by sourcing reference images of garden hose nozzles, shears, and various water tanks to ground the design in realistic elements.

Next, I created a basic blockout of the weapon, aligning its form with the futuristic solar-punk aesthetic of the game. This first step helped establish the overall silhouette and functionality of the design.

With the blockout complete, I refined the larger details, transitioning into creating the high-poly version of the model. This step allowed me to incorporate intricate details that would enhance the texturing process. Once finalized, I UV-unwrapped the low poly model to prepare it for texturing.

For the texturing phase, I used Substance Painter to create custom textures, ensuring the materials complemented the weapon's design and thematic setting.

Given that this weapon is intended for use in a first-person shooter, I divided the model into three separate material groups: the nozzle, the shears, and the tank. This approach allowed the nozzle and shears to have dedicated materials for finer detail, while the tank was optimized with its own material group. This structure ensures high-quality textures in critical areas visible during gameplay while maintaining performance.
