Rusted Armor

  • Substance 3D Painter

  • Unreal Engine

My Process

I began by sourcing reference images of traditional Norse and Viking armor to inform the design direction.

Next, I modeled the armor, focusing on its overall appearance.

Afterwards, I added finer details to enhance the realism and aesthetic appeal.

For efficient texture application, I organized the Helm, Bracers, and Pauldrons onto separate UDIMs, resulting in three distinct material sets.

Utilizing ZBrush, I sculpted finer details such as dents and scratches to enrich the armor's texture.

Following this, I transferred the sculpt details onto the lower poly mesh in Substance 3D Painter and applied textures using various colors, masks, and generators.

Lastly, I imported all models and their textures into Unreal Engine, where I applied materials to ensure seamless integration into the virtual environment, making them ready for use by the designers.
